An experience of a life time Soapbox 2007

The Soapbox team, working alongside Zambians, helping to build the Guest house. Also doing children’s ministry and enjoying a relaxing afternoon on the Zambezi river.

I am sure that each of the 10 members of the Soapbox team had their moments of doubt and anxiety before and probably even after they committed themselves to raise £1400 each. Except that this time the money was not going to be spent on a self-indulging 5 star holiday. It all went towards spending three weeks in Zambia; building, doing children’s ministry for about 300 children (both Zambian and white), sleeping on the floor, having cold showers, eating the local food and sharing their lives with the local people and with each other.

I can promise you that at times all they wanted to do was to go back to their comfort zones and the things we are all familiar with. After all, it was all so new. But as each one of them said, it was an amazing experience of a lifetime and they felt privileged to be a part of God’s work and God’s love for the people of Zambia.

My name is Jacquie Brazier. I have been involved with MFA, as a sponsor, for the past few years and recently agreed to be the UK Administrator. I was a member of the Soapbox team that went to Zambia this summer. What a challenging 3 weeks! It is thrilling to report the reality that MFA is. On my second day there, a first year student at the college took me aside expressly to thank me for changing his life, insisting I return to England and tell everyone how people’s lives are being changed because of our support. I have just spent this morning at a Men’s tennis tournament, an annual fund raising event in Surrey, sponsored by a local estate agent. 80 men paid to play this year and they chose to support MFA. Our Patron, Lady Virginia Bottomley, came to the event and spoke words of encouragement. It was exciting to know that the MFA story is spreading and capturing people’s attention. Interestingly, one of MFA’s strong appeals is that people know that every penny raised goes directly to the college and is not lost in administration or marketing costs. So please keep up your support; every penny makes a difference.

As for the Watts

Thank you all for your prayers. Our time in the UK was amazing, we were so blessed to be able to spend time with our families & friends. During our last week we attended a New Wine conference in Harrogate, which was a great time of meeting new and old friends, and spiritual encouragement.

We have just started running an Alpha course as a part of Ndola Christian Fellowship’s Outreach. We hope to attract many of the ex-pats who’ve moved to town due to the fast growth of the copper mines.

Samuel: we have decided not to put Samuel in school this year (Sept). This means that he will stay for another year at nursery, but will have to say goodbye to some of his friends as they are going to school. We believe that at not yet four, he is too young!

Joel: is doing well and copies everything his big brother does. He had malaria during the Soapbox visit but recovered quickly due to prompt and early treatment, praise God.

Charlie: busy in the workshop, teaching, and being Principal. And he is enjoying watching the rugby world cup on TV.

Sharonne: busy being a mother, wife and administrator etc.

Much to give thanks for:

A good and successful time with Soapbox.

No injuries, no accidents!

Money that has been given to MFAZ through the Soapbox visit, which helped to finish the foundations of the guest house.

For the commitment of many people to support, pray and give to MFAZ.

Please continue to pray for:

It is soon coming to the time of the year when our students sit for their C&G exams. Please pray for fruitful study time and good exam results.

Protection for our students and staff, for their health and their families.

Also for us when we travel and for our health.

In Africa you never know what a day might bring. Please pray for us to have wisdom, strength, patience and love to know how to deal with each situation
